Tom Hayden is a solar energy heating expert with many years’ experience in the industry, and is the founder of GreenLiving and its sister product SimpleHeaters. He has produced a DIY Solar Water Heater Kit that is intended to provide simple instructions for making and fitting a solar-powered water heater in your home. This is a 90-page kit of step-by-step instructions together with several different plans for building a number of versions of a solar water heater system.
I am a great fan of solar heating for domestic hot water systems, having experienced their use in developing countries and having a system of my own which worked very well even in winter with snow outside! They cost very little to make and thereafter provide free solar energy for your hot water requirements virtually for ever, so I was very interested to review Tom Hayden’s product. He claims that you can make and fit an entire system for under $70 in a weekend.

The GreenLiving Kit DIY Solar Water Heater is an impressive product which is clearly laid out, and the instructions and plans should be easy to follow for any reasonably competent DIY enthusiast. I feel that a beginner would not have any trouble making one of these solar water heaters either.
The kit includes a number of different ways to set up and fit a solar water heater, so that every sort of hot water layout can be accommodated. There are tips and guidance about the best way to use the system as well, although none of this is very complicated. I noted that it comes with a full, no-hassle, money-back guarantee valid for 60 days from purchase, which seems to be a pretty good endorsement for the quality of the product, but I doubt many people will want a refund once they have seen and used the guide.
In fact, this is a simple kit for a simple build project, one that will save you a considerable amount of money over a shop-bought solar water heater (which can cost anything up to $1,000) and also give you monthly savings into the distant future. I like these systems, as you probably have gathered by now, and I like this particular diy kit because I believe it will deliver exactly what it says on the box. Good value for money, and you will get great satisfaction from making one of these solar water heater systems for yourself.
One of the best on the market, and strongly recommended.
